Catamaran Workshop on Fake News Vs. Reconciliation

SLPI conducted a two day (12th and 13th July) workshop on ‘’Fake News vs. Reconciliation: Strategies to recognize and react to false information’’ at Mandarina Colombo. SLPI hosted this event in collaboration with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and the British Council Sri Lanka, in partnership with the Ministry of National Integration, Official Languages, Social Progress, and Hindu Religious Affairs and Media in Cooperation and Transition (MiCT) Germany. The guest speaker was Mr. Sven Recker, Editor-in-Chief from MiCT.  

The workshop was structured to discuss the identification of Fake news and Hate speech when writing journal articles on peace and reconciliation. Around 30 journalists from different media streams participated in this workshop. They got a chance to participate actively in promoting national integration and reconciliation within Sri Lanka’s media sector through networking and capacity building.
