The Chairman of the Sri Lanka Press Institute (SLPI), Mr. Kumar Nadesan today requested all Editors of the newspapers to ensure that media ethics and freedom are not compromised at this difficult moment of the country.
He commended the mainstream media for the way it has handled the reporting and building credibility for sharing reliable information amidst several mis/disinformation disseminated through various platforms.
He said “The media has a major role to play in revealing the truth of what happened, whilst also ensuring that national interests are safeguarded”.
Given the current sensitivity of the issues which relates religions and communities in Sri Lanka, the Editors and Publishers were urged to make journalists aware of the Editors’ Code of Professional Practice to maintain media freedom with social responsibility as in the Colombo Declaration.
