Sri Lanka Press Institute hosted a series of media salons on the zoom platform for journalists which addressed election-context, post-election, and current media and political contexts. The three areas addressed following the 2020 Parliamentary election covered a discussion on election reporting namely for provincial journalists, a session to gauge the media influence on public opinion, and the last Salon held, which focused on the ongoing political issue in the country – the 20th Amendment to the Sri Lankan Constitution.
Each of these topics had 2 online webinars dedicated to it – one in Sinhala and one in Tamil. Each Media Salon drew a good number of participants from the Journalism field who could benefit from partaking in such webinars. At the end of each Salon, SLPI shared the e-flyer describing the session’s outcome with the journalists and also made it available on the organization’s social media handles. The videos of the sessions were also live-streamed on the official Facebook page.
